Notes For a Natural History Encyclopedia Volume III: Atlas
2002

Lucia grew up on Cooper Point overlooking Budd Inlet. As a child, she navigated the waterways of South Puget Sound. This atlas, inspired by Puget Sound Geography, Vi Hilbert, Jay Miller, and Zalmai Zahir's edited version of TT Waterman's original manuscript, investigates the indigenous place names of the five inlets of South Puget Sound. Lucia kayaked the inlets, looked for relationships to the place names, recorded her natural history observations, and reflected on her childhood memories. Each map combines visual information with a journal entry. For Lucia, the indigenous place names opened her eyes to understanding the landscape where she grew up.
