Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (2006-08)
In the Fall of 2006, Lucia Harrison and Sharon Sharp did a joint artist residency at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. For almost three weeks they lived in the historic Coast Guard Station at Grand Marais. They made daily trips to the park's diverse habitats. They took notes, made drawings, and took photos. They were most drawn to the patterns of species that have adapted so well to the harsh conditions along Lake Superior. Together they completed one artist book, "First Finds at Pictured Rocks: Log Slide to Au Sable Light Station" while at the park and then worked for over a year to complete the boxed set titled, "This Stretch of Riches."
